Jean-Pascal DECOBERT – Partner

With more than 25 years of experience as a patent engineer, Jean-Pascal Decobert advises companies in a wide range of technologies.

Jean-Pascal Decobert assists his clients in the definition of their intellectual property strategy, in patent granting procedures and in their legal disputes.

He regularly acts in opposition and appeal proceedings before the European Patent Office in Munich. He has a particularly high success rate in this field.

For more than 20 years, Jean-Pascal has been teaching, in particular in the Master 2 of IP law and new technologies at the University of Nice Sophia, and at Polytech’Nice. He has also been a trainer at IEEPI as a know-how specialist. He is also accredited by the BPI as an IP diagnostician. INPI also uses his services for external services, such as IP coaching.

Professional Commitments

Jean-Pascal is a member of the CURIE network and of the LES (Licensing Executive Society), which gives him a transversal approach to IP, in the field of value creation.

Jean-Pascal Decobert is also a member of the AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property), the FICPI (international association of law firms and industrial property managers), the EPI (European Patent Institute) and the INTA (International Trademark Association).

Career

Jean-Pascal Decobert first gained research experience at the Office National d’Etudes et de Recherches Aérospatiales as a specialist in the mechanical characterization of composite materials. He also implemented numerical modelling by software using the finite element method.

He then turned to industrial property in a specialized firm in Lille. He has been a consultant at Cabinet Hautier since 1998. Jean-Pascal Decobert also provides training in intellectual property at the Ecole Polytechnique Universitaire de Sophia Antipolis and at the Institut Universitaire Professionnalisé (IUP) de Sophia Antipolis, particularly in IP management. He has also given trainings at the IEEPI and at the INPI.

He likes to advise companies to build a real IP strategy; to this end, he draws on his very transversal expertise covering all aspects of industrial property (Trademark and patent attorney; expert in know-how management and IP asset management) and more than 25 years of experience in IP.
