Following the first phase introduced in May 2025, the European design reform reaches a new milestone on July 1, 2026.

One of the most significant changes is the removal of the 7-view limit for design representations.

With only seven views available, it was sometimes challenging to adequately capture all relevant visual features of a design.

As of July 1, 2026:
✅ More views may be submitted;
✅ New file formats will be accepted, including animations, videos, and certain 3D/CAD modeling files;
✅ Design representations will be better suited to digital and interactive creations.

This reform provides greater flexibility for applicants, but it also calls for increased vigilance: all representations must remain fully consistent, as the scope of protection will be assessed based on all submitted views.

💻 More than a procedural reform, this is a significant step toward aligning design law with the realities of the digital economy.
